Our kittens go to their new homes with the following: 3 FVRCP (feline distemper) vaccinations, clear fecal test, de-worming, and a negative FIV (feline leukemia) test. They must pass a comprehensive health certification involving blood testing and a complete physical exam. ShaggyCoonz ensures we sell healthy cats and kittens and provide veterinarian-issued health certificate for every ShaggyCoonz kitten before leaving to go home with you.
30-Days of Trupanion Health Insurance Coverage
In addition to our generous health guarantee, we send every kitten home covered by a robust health policy from Trupanion. There's no cost to you and no obligation to keep it after 30 days.
Our kittens are not or spayed prior to placement due to the size and slow growth of the Maine Coon. Early spay and neutering of young kittens may be related to slipped disc femoral head epiphysis in the Maine Coon. We recommend neutering the male Maine Coon during the surgery. ShaggyCoonz neuters or spays retired adults prior to leaving the cattery for their forever home. All health issues requiring veterinarian care prior to placement are included in the adoption fee. Your who reserve a kitten are updated on the kittens’ progress as it develops, Kiand photos and videos are shared on social media and individually as we are able to. Placement may be delayed or cancelled if a serious health issue is discovered during development and/or health certification. ShaggyCoonz reserves the right to cancel a reservation at any time.
ShaggyCoonz reserves the right to cancel the reservation of a kitten who develops into a Breeder/Show Quality Cat we would like to retain for the breeding program The customer may be moved to the top of the next available litter and their full deposit is returned immediately.

Remember being added to the waiting list does not guarantee a specific kitten to be born within a specific timeframe. It guarantees your specific place in line for selection of your future kitten.
We would like to give a little bit of education on what it takes to be a good ethical breeder and the expenses we incur to have beautiful ShaggyCoonz Maine Coon Kittens. Kittens are $3500
This includes -
anything less is not even covering the expenses we incur. ShaggyCoonz strives to bring you healthy babies for you to enjoy for years and years to come. Health is our main concern!!! The following is why...
Reservation List:
We are asked all the time to send a PM to be placed on the Reservation List. We don't blindly add people to the Reservation List, but we are happy to share with you the process and how it works.
To be placed on the list first and foremost you will fill out an application to be considered for a kitten. Once we receive the application, we will schedule a time for a phone interview. If we decide we are compatible and decide mutually that we want to work together, then the buyer will send the $500 fee to be placed on the reservation list. This fee is non-refundable but it does go towards your future baby. The list goes in order of completed contracts with payment received. If we specify early in our messages that you would be 10th in line, that is if you are prompt in filling out your paperwork, having your phone interview, and sending in your payment. If you are not prompt then odds are you are further down the list than you think. Once you are successfully on the list, we do not guarantee a kitten to be born within a specific timeframe. We only have 1-2 litters a year so if you have a specific color or sex in mind your wait can and will likely be longer. Once you are on our list, you will receive pictures of kittens as they become available even if they are not your requested color. You are welcome to skip up to 3 kittens before selecting a kitten or you may be moved further down the list. Once you have selected your perfect baby you will then pay the deposit. This fee will also apply towards your baby. Selection will occur roughly between 4 and 6 weeks of age. Kittens will go home roughly between 12 and 14 weeks of age. We try to send kittens home at 12 weeks but do reserve the right to delay this if we feel it is in the best interest of our kittens.
Hopefully this will answer a lot of questions on how the list works.
If you are interested in getting on our list please send a PM on FB messenger or through email.
Do not ask questions on our open FB page but only through FB messenger as FB frowns upon animals sold via FB.
Breeders pay double the amount noted above for a good quality Maine Coon with Breeding Rights...then comes the Genetic Testing. We test for HCM, a fatal heart condition that we don't want to pass on to our precious kittens. We test for SMA,Spinal Muscular Atrophy specific to Maine Coon Cats. Again, we do this because we don't want to pass this on to our kittens and their buyers. We test for PK Deficiency... Also known as Erythrocyte Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency. A known blood disorder in Maine Coon cats. We also test our cats for PKD, otherwise known as Polycystic Kidney Disease. A disease that can cause kidney failure...all because we don't want to pass this on to our precious babies..and our buyers. These tests are not cheap. A genetic version costs around $100 to $250 depending on who does the testing. In addition to DNA testing, we have our breeding cats heart’s echocardiogram to ensure there is no possibility of HCM. These tests can run anywhere from $300-$1000 depending where the testing is done. Ok now that you've seen these prices we pay, multiply all these test and expenses by 2... just to bring you 1 litter of kittens. We have to test both males and females to make sure they are free and clear of these genetic defects. If any cat doesn't pass with flying colors, they get spayed/neutered. We never recoup the money spent. Now that's all just the beginning. Once the female queen is pregnant, the expenses don't stop; they have vet visits. Sometimes Ultrasounds. Sometimes the mom has to have emergency surgery/ c-section. Then the day comes and we have beautiful babies...We could only have 1 or 2 kittens. And we never make enough to cover what we have spent...or it could be 6 beautiful kittens. The expenses still don't stop at this point. We spend weeks helping mom nurse these babies, up all hours of the night. Ethical breeders pay for this testing to ensure your ShaggyCoonz kitten is healthy and ready for your home. We also given a health guarantee for your kitten. If they die from any of the genetic diseases, SMA,PKD, and 5 year health guarantee against HCM, you get a replacement kitten. This is logic behind our pricing, $3000-$3500.
Yes, you can find kittens for a lot less with a backyard breeder...but this is why you don't want to deal with a backyard breeder. They may sell their kittens much cheaper, but they don't test their breeding cats. We encourage everyone looking for a quality cat to do your homework. Verify that your cats parents have been tested. Make sure your breeder is doing all they can to bring you a healthy pure breed kitten. A good breeder makes even less than these backyard breeders do in the grand scheme of things. Remember, you get what you pay for!!! Pay for something healthy and beautiful!!.
